Exciting Changes, Events coming up at Towe Auto Museum
Big changes and lots of events are happening at the Towe Auto Museum this fall.
A recent change in management has members galvanized to clean house and spruce up. An “Excuse Our Dust” sign now appears at the front door, announcing renovations that will include new exterior paint, red rain gutters and trim, and a red translucent awning at the front door. New logo paint and a mural project along the Front Street side of the building will soon follow as a part of the museum’s slick new downtown image.
A new gift shop will open this fall that will feature a selection of books, DVDs, and logo specific merchandise. One corner of the shop will serve as a showroom to sell cars that have been donated for sale or are ready to be taken out of floor rotation.
With the changes, Towe Auto Museum continues to offer its traditional events as well as add new ones. The kids’ engine class, “How Does That Engine Work?” is sold out, as are the AARP driver safety courses. The Model T Basics class, a “destination class” that attracts people from all over the west, is sold out; names are being accepted for an overflow date that will include driving instruction. Classes in auto computer tune-ups and mechanical brakes are also available; call the Museum for dates and times.
The semi-annual Swap Meet, which draws auto enthusiasts from throughout the west, will be held Oct. 1 under the freeway at 10th and X Streets. Booths open at 6 a.m.
A new lecture series launches September 20 at 6 p.m. as Towe Auto Museum enjoys a new partnership with the Sacramento Art Deco Society (SADS). “Popular Music of the Art Deco Period” will be presented by Steve Cates and Rebecca Kane, and will include demonstration of an acoustic phonograph. Doors open at 7 p.m. and will cost $5 for non-members of SADS.
